Patrick Stewart is gearing up for a new battle but this one will take place off the screen.
Stewart, who is promoting the new film Logan, was asked the explain what he had called a fairly innocent tweet last month:
I did not directly insult your president, he said.
Not mine, co-host Whoopi Goldberg interjected to applause.
Hes not mine either, Stewart said, since he is a British citizen. We have our own problems. We have Brexit.
Then he added:
Im not a citizen. However, there is, maybe its the only good thing as the result of this election: I am now applying for citizenship because I want to be an American too, because all of my friends in Washington said, There is one thing you can do. Fight, fight, oppose, oppose. But I cant do it because Im not a citizen.
Its not clear if hes applied yet, or was referring to plans to apply in the future.
