Patrick Stewart Is Becoming A U.S. Citizen So He Can Fight Donald Trump

Patrick Stewart is gearing up for a new battle but this one will take place off the screen.

The X-Men star said on The View on Thursday that he is becoming an American citizen so he fight President Donald Trump.

Stewart, who is promoting the new film Logan, was asked the explain what he had called a fairly innocent tweet last month:

I did not directly insult your president, he said.

Not mine, co-host Whoopi Goldberg interjected to applause.

Hes not mine either, Stewart said, since he is a British citizen. We have our own problems. We have Brexit.

Then he added:

Im not a citizen. However, there is, maybe its the only good thing as the result of this election: I am now applying for citizenship because I want to be an American too, because all of my friends in Washington said, There is one thing you can do. Fight, fight, oppose, oppose. But I cant do it because Im not a citizen.

Its not clear if hes applied yet, or was referring to plans to apply in the future.

Stewart has beenvocal in his opposition to Trump both during the campaignand since.
