Bellefonte Area Middle School science teacher Jim Nye regularly grows out his hair to raise money for different charities. He likes to dye his hair different colors to raise awareness for certain causes, and generally likes to use his appearance as a way to communicate what’s important to him.
But as ateacher, he needs to maintain a proper appearance. The school told Jim to cut his hair and shave his beard before his appearance became too unkempt.
He started growing out his hair in October 2015, and hadn’t cut it since.
The teacher had to oblige, but he said that he would only change his appearance if it would support a good cause. He chose toraise money for the Four Diamonds Fund. The money would help supportchildren and families affected by childhood cancer.
In front of the eighth-grade class and his colleagues, he had his bushy beard and thick, curly hair chopped off, trimmed, and styled. The students and faculty members who raised the most money for the fund were even able to participate in the makeover.
After all the hair was gone, Jim looked like a whole new person! Were you expecting his face to look like that? Let us know in the comments!
